Quote of the Day

"What great thing would you attempt if you knew you could not fail."

---Robert H. Schuller

Today's Assignment

You need to finish the introductory paragraph and 1st body paragraph of your Personal Research Essay.

This will count as a TEST GRADE so you need to check for the following before submitting:

  • Did you indent each paragraph?
  • Did you double-space?
  • Does the introductory paragraph tell your personal story related to your topic?
  • Is the last sentence of the introductory paragraph your thesis statement (three research questions summed up in one sentence)?
  • Do you have a topic sentence for the body paragraph (research question)?
  • Do you have 2-3 facts from one or more of your sources in your body paragraph?
  • Do you have a parenthetical citation for each fact that you pulled from a source that would not be considered common knowledge?
  • Did you place the period after the parenthetical citation instead of before?
  • Do you have at least one sentence commenting on each fact before introducing a new fact in the body paragraph?
  • Did you use transitions (In addition, Furthermore, Also, etc.) to move the reader from one fact to another in the body paragraph?
  • Did you proofread?
  • Did you correct any spelling, punctuation, or capitalization errors?
Until you can answer "yes" to the above questions, you should not submit your Personal Research Essay.

In addition to checking for the above, I need you to highlight the following:

  • Thesis Statement
  • Topic Sentence of Body Paragraph
  • Each Parenthetical Citation (Not the entire sentence, only the citation)
Once you are sure that you have done all of the above, use the submission form to turn in your Personal Research Essay.
